The David Brown 1200 Selectamatic Tractor was launched in 1967. It was designed to meet the demand by farmers for more horse power. The engine was a 67 h.p. four cylinder direct diesel injection coupled to a six forward and two reverse speed gearbox with a top speed of 14.7 m.p.h., a twelve forward speed gearbox was optional. Standard equipment included, independent power take-off with a hand-lever operated clutch, diff-lock, Selectamatic hydraulics, drum brakes and a pedal operated exhaust brake. This device was a form of pneumatic engine brake which, when the foot pedal was depressed, restricted the flow of exhaust gases from the engine thus slowing the transmission of power to the rear wheels. Engine power was increased to 72 h.p. in 1969 and the David Brown 1200 Selectamatic remained in production until 1971. |
