Case Tractors The Case Corporation was founded by Jerome Increase Case in 1847. Case began manufacturing steam engines in 1869 and introduced its first steam traction engine in 1878. The first experimental internal combustion tractor was built to a design by William Patterson in 1892, due to carburetor and ignition problems the machine was discarded after several years trials. While several models were produced between 1892 it was in 1918 that the introduction of the Case 9/18 resulted in the first of a long line of practical and reliable tractors. The transverse engine was to be a feature of all Case tractors until the model L was introduced in 1929. The advent of World War II saw many Case tractors becoming a regular sight throughout the United Kingdom. By far the most common was the Case DEX which was capable of pulling a three furrow plough. The Case LA was a more powerful machine the 32/45 hp engine produced high power at the belt pulley making it a very popular tractor with contractors. |
